Why Consumers Open E-mails

If are using e-mail to contact your customers, you must know why they would open the e-mail or just delete them. The three top reasons clients open e-mails are:
(Results from "Return Path Third Annual Holiday Email Consumer Survey - January 2007")
1. Know and trust the sender.
2. Previously opened and found valuable
3. Subject Line.
Two important points to consider:

Build a relationship of trust with the recipients

Help the recipient to get to know you by e-mailing regularly enough that the recipient gets acquainted with your e-mails. Help the recipient to trust you by making sure your information is useful. Build a relationship with your readers, by writing in a personable way.

Is your E-Mail worthwhile?

Your clients must view your e-mail as valuable or they won't read it in the future. You should be well aware that every newsletter you send may be the last a client will ever read. If you send out a newsletter of questionable value, your newsletter may never be opened again.

What is it?

Phishing (pronounced fishing) is a type of deception designed to steal your identity. In a phishing scam, a malicious person tries to get information like credit card numbers, passwords, account information, or other personal information from you by convincing you to give it to them under false pretenses. Phishing schemes usually come via spam e-mail or pop-up windows.

Five ways to help avoid phishing scams

1. Never respond to requests for personal information via e-mail.
2. Visit Web sites by typing the URL into your address bar.
3. Check to make sure the Web site is using encryption.
4. Routinely review your credit card and bank statements.
5. Report suspected abuses to the proper authorities.
